Amazon Prime Day is coming, Are You Ready?

Prime Day is Amazon’s sale event solely for Prime members. It usually includes one or two days of special discounts on thousands of items across all product categories.

Since the first time the company held this event, Prime Day has turned into a huge success.

Last year, Prime Day sales surpassed Amazon’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales combined. Members bought more than 175 million items globally. According to Statista, Prime Day revenue came to $7.16 billion in 2019.

As shoppers are impatiently waiting for the big sales, investors are wondering whether to put their money in Amazon during Prime Day time.

To answer this question, we need to see how Prime Day impacts Amazon stock movements.

In July of 2015, Amazon launched its first Prime Day, and it was outrageously successful.

The company announced a 60% revenue growth. Sales soared to a new record high with each annual event.

So perhaps it is no surprise that nowadays, Prime Day is important not only to customers, but to investors and traders as well.

Let’s look at Amazon Prime Day Short-term return:

Buying Amazon shares on the first day after Prime Day gets started, and selling on the next day, generates an average return of 0.27%. This is higher than an average day for Amazon.

Now, if a trader buys stock on Prime Day and holds it for two weeks – returns get to an average of 4%. This is more than double the average return for any given 10-trading-day period.

Given all these data and information, it is safe to conclude that Amazon Prime Day could be the best time for investors to profit.
